With the development of Embilipitiya area this school was established as a well planned project by the River valley Development Board which was launched as the second multipurpose project in Sri Lanka in 1970s. It is situated in New Town near by the beautiful lake Chandrika wewe. It was started on 24th January, 1977 as the New Town Vidyalaya at 10.46 am auspiciously.
This school premises is 35 acres in extension and there were 4 buildings. Only 126 students 15 teachers were there to commence the teaching and learning process.
After that the name New Town Was changed as R/ EMB/ Maddya Maha Viddyalaya on 14th June 1980.
Today, by 2011 our school name has changed as R/ EMB/ Presidents College since last year and there are more than 5000 students and 206 teachers.
